About Us

Welcome to Wholesome Renegade

If you’re looking for thoughtful perspectives on nutrition, movement, natural living, homeschooling, and raising children in a complicated world, you’re in the right place.

I’m Vanessa Richard, a Northern Ontario homeschooling mom of two, soon to be three. I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration and recently completed a certification in holistic nutrition. More than anything, I’m a mother who has spent years questioning conventional ideas about health and searching for more informed, intentional ways to care for my family.

My journey took a profound turn shortly after my second child was born. Just eight days later, my oldest daughter, Kiera, was flown to a children’s hospital with a severe, life-threatening illness. That experience changed the way I viewed health, encouraged me to ask deeper questions, and inspired me to leave my full-time career of 11 years so I could care for my children while continuing my education.

Here, I share what I’m learning about nutrition, health, movement, homeschooling, motherhood, and living more consciously. My goal isn’t to tell you what to think, but to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and the confidence to make choices that align with your family’s values.

I’ve dedicated a separate page to Kiera’s story for those who would like to learn more about our family’s experience.

I’ll also be documenting our journey toward homesteading. For now, we’re living in a city basement apartment, but we’re taking steps toward the simpler, more self-sufficient life we hope to build.

Thanks for being here. Explore the blog, read Kiera’s story, and join me as we pursue a more wholesome (and occasionally renegade) way of living.
